About Us
The Department for Genocide, Gender, and Social Research (DGGSR) is an academic institution dedicated to researching, analysing, and advocating for issues relevant to Kurdish society within the framework of the social sciences. The centre operates as a hub for interdisciplinary research, education, advocacy, and community engagement, with a focus on preventing the recurrence of genocide and human rights violations. It addresses critical topics such as violence in post-war societies, genocide and its impact on Kurdish communities, gender issues, discrimination, and social injustice. Through scientific research, programs, activities, and support services, DGGSR strives to advance knowledge, foster self-confidence, raise political and social awareness, empower marginalized communities, and contribute to the creation of a more just and inclusive society. A key aspect of its mission is to enhance women's participation in community development, promoting their awareness and involvement in shaping societal progress.
Our Mission
The Department for Genocide, Gender, and Social Research (DGGSR) is committed to defending the rights of people of Kurdistan, regardless of class, religion, or creed. We focus on understanding the crimes of genocide and advocating for the rights of victims in post-genocide and post-war societies. Our mission includes promoting scholarship, advancing social justice, eliminating discrimination, fostering constructive dialogue, and empowering individuals with awareness and self-confidence. Through our research, work, and activities, we aim to address the challenges facing Kurdish society. We strive to build scientific bridges and foster collaboration with global communities, offering opportunities for researchers and making a positive impact on individuals, groups, and institutions that seek partnership, understanding, and growth.
Our Vision
Kurdistan remains a developing society with significant untapped potential. We recognize the need for research and scientific inquiry across all fields. Our research is driven by the needs of individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions, with a focus on fostering political, social, economic, and educational awareness. By exploring new ways of thinking, we aim to harness the strengths and capacities of Kurdish society. To achieve this, we actively seek partnerships and collaboration with community groups, religious organizations, government bodies, and both the public and private sectors. We are at the beginning of our journey, and the credibility we establish fuels our activities. We call on all those who are invested in the future of Kurdish society to unite, show solidarity, and contribute to finding solutions to pressing challenges. We also urge international agencies and organizations to support our efforts for a more stable, peaceful, genocide-free, and just world. Our center is committed to being a reliable partner in fulfilling these goals.
